We often seem to be harping on about how Passive House is for all building types. It’s a common misunderstanding, especially given the name, that Passive House is only for residential buildings. But, around the world, there are a multitude of building types that have achieved the ultra-low energy standard – including schools, medical facilities, office towers, fire stations and now supermarkets.

Germany’s first Passive House supermarket has officially been certified by the Passivhaus Institut, and represents an exemplary project for this type of facility.

The project promises over 30% in energy savings compared to a conventional supermarket, with significant reductions in energy used in areas such as cooling and lighting.
