Ice Box Challenge Sydney 2022 Wrap Up
The Ice Box Challenge has concluded in Martin Place, with the Passive House Standard box victorious over the Australian Building Code box by a whopping 413kgs!
The boxes, which were each equally filled with a cubic metre of ice nearly two weeks ago, were uncovered at the closing ceremony on Friday 4 March and measured as follows:
Australian Building Code box: .8 kg
Passive House Standard box: 413.8 kgs
APHA CEO Paul Wall, was thrilled with the results, saying "the event captured interest far and wide, with the big reveal demonstrating visually, and beyond doubt the superior qualities of Passive House construction. Being a performance standard, we knew that based on the modelling we could guarantee the outcome, and that the impressive 413kgs of ice remaining in the Passive House box could have far exceeded of the 12 day demonstration.
The benefits of Passive House extend way past the thermal qualities proven with the Ice Box Challenge, with a healthy and comfortable indoor environment guaranteed, creating the ideal environment for people whether that be in the family home or any asset class including office, educational or community buildings to name a few.
This was a real team effort, and it would not have been possible without the support of the City of Sydney, all our sponsors including the major sponsor Eclipse Passive House and of course the many volunteers that gave their time so generously during the event"
