To say the Fern Apartments have been in the news lately is an understatement! Read a variety of articles on this exciting project below:

The Fern Official Launch Wrap up
It was standing room only on 17th September for the completion tour of the Fern, Australia's first Multi Residential Passive House project. We were thrilled to have The Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, open the ceremonies and project owner Oliver Steele gave a brilliant presentation on his journey through the build process.
Other highlights of the evening included Clare parry presenting Oliver with the Passive House Certification plaque for the building. In addition, the HIA also presented Oliver with the 2019 HIA Australian GreenSmart Professional and The Fern won the 2019 HIA Australian GreenSmart Multi Dwelling Development. The night was a fitting recognition of an inspirational project of which we are all excited to be associated with and celebrate.
This month we would like to introduce Harley Weston of Solaire Properties Pty Ltd in Brisbane.
Who are you?
My background is coal exploration working for BHP where I was exposed to the geological history of the planet each day and the carbon cycles and variations of life that have come and gone before us. Between this and the daily grind of watching the slow pace of business with large corporate companies I was inspired to pivot my career 180 degrees and begin work on something positive for sustainability.
Why are you a member of the APHA?
We have decided to become members of APHA to tap into the network of experts, companies and individuals that are passionate about advancing the standards of construction being built here in Australia. As we are also constructing the largest PH ever to be built on Australian soil we have aimed to affiliate ourselves with the leading organisation in this field.
What inspires you about Passive House?
Passive house modelling is by far the most advanced principals and system that we have been associated with to date. What we find so inspiring is the radical reduction in energy usage and the ability to maintain such comfortable inside temperatures while the environment outside can be vastly different conditions.
This aligns perfectly with what Solaire already does in chemical reduction, NZB buildings, Home automation and our chain of custody, circular economy principals. Passive house was the next logical step to advance our homes and we are currently constructing what we aim to be Australia’s largest architectural home with full Passive House certification.
Currently this project is at the framing stage and in true Solaire style we are not only building a Passive home but a healthy, chemical free, Net Zero energy building, complete with fresh water pools, home automation, full solar and battery systems and state of the art heat pumps in collaboration with some of Queensland’s leading university and government agencies.
Any fun facts or interesting snippets about you?
I am a commercial helicopter pilot. I also personally designed and developed a 12 acre botanical garden which is now home to the 2nd largest collection of rare and exotic fruit species in Australia through till 2016. The three of us at Solaire all come from a small QLD coastal town called Yeppoon.
Get in touch with Harley Weston
We are very interested in working with the best in their fields and if companies or individuals out there are interested in collaborating, cross promoting or simply in need of information we are open to being contacted by members of the APHA - email firstname.lastname@example.org
If you would like to be featured in our member directory please get in touch at email@example.com

DESCRIPTION: The global demand for highly efficient and cost-effective windows exceeds the current production expertise thus leading to market shortages. This workshop is intended to contribute towards eliminating these shortages by providing specialist knowledge on high performance windows. Additionally, participants will be able to convince producers in their regional markets to manufacture these high performance windows in their respective regions.
